Our work
Speed Line
This Macrocarpa tree had lost a couple of branches due to high winds and required a slight reduction and to tidy up the storm damage. Due to the presence of caravans directly underneath, all branches cut would need to be lowered down by rope to ensure no damage would be caused to the surroundings. As the space between the caravans and the tree was very limited, by lowering each branch the traditional way down the middle of the tree would have been very time consuming and still high risk.
This was avoided by setting up a “speed line” which works in the same way as a zip line. A suitable rope was tied to the top of the tree and by using the truck as a ground anchor plus the assistance of a lowering bollard, we were able to control the tension of the rope. The branches are tied onto a pulley, which is attached to the rope which transport the cut branches to the landing zone.
This ensured all obstacles were overcome safely and efficiently, with the bonus of not having to drag the branches to the working zone.
Reduction
This Oak tree had lost a large limb on one side causing it to be heavily weighted towards a main road with further risk to fail. As the mature Oak was in otherwise healthy condition, it was decided a crown reduction and removal of deadwood would be the appropriate action required. Photos were taken before and after the work was completed, hover over the image to see the result (tap on mobile).
Decayed Tree Fell
This dead pine tree was leaning over a Grade Two Listed wall, phone lines and power lines. The tree was too unsafe to climb, due to how decayed it was. By using a combination of ropes, pulleys and slings, we were able to fell the tree from ground level using the winch on the truck to pull it safely in the direction intended. An old, iron bar was discovered in the main stem, and it’s thought that the bar was installed as a support for the tree when it was a sapling but was never removed and ended up being carried up the tree over many years. With obvious scorch marks in the timber which had grown around the bar, it was deduced that the iron bar had acted as a lightning conductor which brought the tree to its demise…and blunted my chainsaw!
